| Biography Erin-Elizabeth A. Durham is a talented and versatile artist, with a gift for encapsulating allegories into her figurative and representational work. Vibrant and exciting, her bold colour palette combines hard lines with gently-layered brushstrokes to lend a unique surreal quality to her work. Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Mrs. Durham was raised in Roswell, Georgia. Always painting, she studied English with a concentration in Medieval Literature as an undergraduate at the University of Georgia, and studied Applied Painting while working towards her post-graduate degree at Georgia State University. Erin-Elizabeth is heavily influenced by Gustav Klimt, Fabian Perez and Alphonse Mucha. Her current series are Classical Greek Mythology, Ballerina, On the Water, and The Classics: Faux Movie Posters and Playbills. A third-generation painter, Erin-Elizabeth credits her grandmother, the Canadian artist Lois Moriarity, as her artistic mentor and inspiration. Mrs. Durham currently works in Atlanta, Georgia where she lives with her husband, Kevin, four children, three dogs and a cat. CV 2004 Masters of Science Georgia State University 1998 Bachelors of Arts University of Georgia Artist Statement: I am a local Atlanta artist. I paint and draw and I LOVE to create my art. Reality: I have a day-job that has nothing to do with what I love to do. I have 4 wonderful kids, and they have to eat (funny how that works), be clothed, and have these insane things like a roof over their heads… in a decent school district so that they can get a decent education, etc., etc… you know the drill. I paint figurative and representational work. I am heavily influenced by Gustav Klimt, Fabian Perez and Alphonse Mucha. I usually paint with acrylics (mostly because of their non-toxic nature... and the whole 'I have a bunch of kids and they get into my studio on a regular basis' factor), and I dabble in oils whenever I can.
I was born an artist. I sketched and painted all of my life, but I couldn't afford Art School... instead I studied at public Georgia Universities and took graduate Applied Painting classes as electives. I would have loved to paint all day long, but with babies and bills, Real Life interfered just a bit too much. *grin* My current series are Classical Greek Mythology, Ballerina, On the Water, and The Classics: Faux Movie Posters and Playbills. OK, so where does Reality meet the Artist? That is the question that I address every day when I push for time to create. Cheers, --EE Durham |
